I just read this article on “Precedent Set — Germany To Fine Facebook $500K For Every “Fake News” Post They Don’t Delete“, and I have to say…WTF??? Who the hell do they think they are that they can dictate to an American tech giant something like this??? Oh wait…Angela Merkel is Illuminati. sigh But if I was Mark Zuckerberg, I’d be pissed off and wouldn’t do it at all now!
He has already made noises to do some half-hearted censoring (see this post to see my take on how sincere I feel he is), and the MSM is touting it as a great thing, and even alternative news is making it out to be a horrible thing, so why is Germany making waves? Perhaps they see the same thing I did…that Facebook is only paying lip service to the whole censorship thing.
Still…who does Germany think they are to try to do this…they aren’t even a major world power! How the hell do they think they can enforce this? Who says that Zuckerberg has to pay such fines levied by another country? I dunno…I think this is going to backfire on Germany. I think it’s another Illuminati attempt to control the masses, and is another desperate ploy to control the alternative media.
But then I look at the language used…it’s all kinda iffy too. Is the alternative news grandstanding here?
Thomas Oppermann, chairman of Germany’s Social Democratic Party, suggests a strict law with concurrent stiff penalty might be the best method of combating the plethora of “fake news” now apparently flooding the interwebs.
“Facebook did not avail itself of the opportunity to regulate the issue of complaint management itself,” Oppermann told Der Spiegel in an interview Friday. “Now market dominating platforms like Facebook will be legally required to build a legal protection office in Germany that is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.”
According to Deutsche Welle, this would allow putative ‘victims’ of fake news or hate speech to contact Facebook and request action be taken.
Hmmm…victims of fake news or hate speech would be allowed to contact Facebook and request action be taken. Yeah, and strict laws and concurrent stiff penalties might be the best method of combating fake news apparently flooding the interwebs. I think perhaps the article is inflating the story to make it sound worse than it really is. Hmmm…. 😦
But…who is this Oppermann guy to dictate what is legally required for platforms like Facebook? This smacks of arrogance IMO. I don’t think Zuckerberg will take this seriously, and if he’s smart, he’ll set his lawyers on them. Oh yeah…this is all getting very interesting…I do think that the social media giants will push back.
Actually, the article does give a very telling reason for Germany’s actions…as they point out:
The move is partly in response to fears that fake news posts could have an effect on the German parliamentary elections taking place in 2017, according to the Financial Times.
Hmmm…I guess the Illuminati in Germany and their puppet Angela Merkel are running scared. She will be defeated, but not because of fake news.
